Khol Do

Khol Do, a 55-minute piece with no words, is inspired by a short story by Saadat Hasan Manto. The story is set in the riots of 1946-47 that finally led to the breakup of India and the creation of Pakistan. A father has lost his daughter, Sakina, somewhere in the crowds of fleeing people on a railway platform. All he has left of her is her dupatta - veil.

For him, the search for his daughter is so intense, so deep, that he begins to find her, bit by bit, in his own body - In the beauty of dance. Only Sakina knows what she has had to go through - daily rape by eight men who have kept her locked up.
